I wanted to produce a full-sized (18" x 25") poster that would not only show design skill and taste but also highlight a personal brand. Use a selection of roughly chronological iPhone photos to give recipients a genuine look into my daily life and work. Use written personal assessments from colleagues and clients to hopefully add an additional level of truth to the piece. Pair the poster with other pieces that will allow for a great degree of flexibility over multiple applications.

Currently a personal project that is rather undefined. However, I like the idea of putting stuff out there that engages and relates in an informal way. Photos from my personal life collected over about a year. Show here is a poster series to introduce the project.

It's funny how motivating an office-wide reorg can be. A self initiated effort to create a name and visual look and feel for a possible new design firm.

Some simple custom covers for personal media files. The original artwork was mostly terrible and from wildly variable sources. Images were sourced from the web and then manipulated.

The Graditude 2011 poster series and pamphlet were created to give the campaign a direction and visual language from which future seasonal efforts would be produced. All pieces needed to stand out from other promotional material displayed around campus while maintaining a connection to the student community.
Shown here are final designs along with alternate directions based on the original brief. All photography shot by me on U of T front campus.

The concept was to use colours, imagery and a level of simplicity in all communications that would engage busy working professionals. Achieve this with a strong grid-based modern style and dark rich colours that lend themselves to easy information delivery. Quickly develop a visual system that would function accross various mediums and programs. Because of a merger within the faculty these new materials needed to be produced in the middle of a busy course schedule. We worked closely with members of the marketing and programing teams to ensure this solution was cohesive and complete. The design of these initial pieces was key to getting everyone onboard with the new approach.

Visual I.D. carried over various materials. A happy accident of sorts. How to represent University of Toronto Engineering without using their nasty logo? Just spell it out. Font choices reflect preferred focus and look & feel for each portion.

These are designs from various stages of development. Work on this project also included front-end coding, cms templating, a user manual and training. Some of the other shots below are: Printer friendly version, notes and early designs. I used a highly modular grid based design to allow for endless design variation across multiple mediums. Use minimal design elements to allow the content to be the main focus. I created unique instances of this single design that would be distinct among the group without having the benefit of different logos or marks. Achieve a high level of execution while using a rigid content management system. Working closely with the content creators from the very beginning to better understand the needs of the staff that would ultimately populate the sites. Meet with and customize layouts for various offices and departments. Perform thorough usability and accessibility testing, revising designs as needed.
